These are all the times each of the kids have vomited over the last couple of weeks. I can't even describe what it has been like here for us. Just when you think they were fine, one of them got sick again. Hayden had terrible diarrhea, but Bronwyn obviously got the worst of it. We took her the pediatrician this past Monday, Wednesday, and again on Friday. She had her urine checked each time along with an entire checkup. She was tested for diabetes, a UTI, and any signs of dehydration. After everything, she was still throwing up. Even after taking Zofran, which they gave us to stop the vomiting. She had not eaten in 3 days. She would drink sprite, apple juice, and Gatorade, but they would still come up.
Finally the doctors at our pediatricians office recommended we take Bronwyn to the ER for a chest x-ray, an IV and blood tests. That's where we ended up Friday afternoon. I can't explain what it feels like to put your child through all of this. Pinning her down while she is screaming and thrashing, her eyes about to bulge out of their sockets... all while the nurses are trying to draw blood from her tiny little arms. After the blood draw they move onto the other arm to set up an IV. Thankfully that allowed her to rest and sleep for a bit. After all is said and done, no one can figure out what was wrong. Everyone agrees that they probably just both got a flu virus and their systems just could not kick it.
Saturday, she's completely herself again! Hungry and playful, and back to normal! She has to take Prevacid for the next 2 weeks to help with indigestion but other than that she's fine. We hated putting her through everything at the ER but we feel like the IV fluids were just what she needed. I'm still counting the hours and the days because over the last couple weeks she's been fine and then gotten sick again. During the trips to the doctors office it didn't seem like she weighed any less. But all of the pants she was wearing a week ago are now falling off her waist and she is constantly pulling them up. I actually bought her some size 3T capris for the summer and ended up having to exchange them for size 18-24 month!!!!! And they still are roomy! :(
She missed her last dance class, a swim lesson, and a birthday party. She hated having to miss out on things. But she needed time to rest and get better and now it really looks like this time she is fine. And Hayden is happy to have his partner in crime back to feeling 100% better!
